California Live Scan
Electronic submission to the California Department of Justice, and onward to the FBI where the applicant type requires it. The part that decides whether it works is not the capture — it is whether the ORI code and applicant type on your form route the submission to the agency that actually needs the result, at the level of review they need.
Ink fingerprint cards
FD-258 and other card formats, rolled by hand. Cards are what you need when the receiving agency sits outside California, because fingerprints are not transmitted electronically between states. They are also the fallback when electronic capture has failed repeatedly — in some difficult cases a card succeeds where a scanner will not.
Difficult fingerprints
Worn ridge detail, dry or damaged skin, and age-related flattening are the most common reasons a submission comes back. These are handled differently from a routine appointment: more attention to moisture and pressure, more quality review before submission, and a realistic conversation about what is achievable. We do not promise acceptance, because that decision is not ours to make.
